An Illustrious American Suicide: Lewis Burwell Puller, Jr. (David Duggan, USA, 01/17/19 9:41 am)Lewis Burwell Puller Jr., the son of "Chesty" Puller, the most decorated Marine in history, after being severely wounded in Vietnam as a Marine officer, finished law school, became a lawyer for the Veteran's Administration, won the Pulitzer prize for [auto]biography for his Fortunate Son, the Autobiography of Lewis B. Puller, Jr., died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
JE comments: This is a grim topic, but I brought it up. I would claim that Puller is a hero despite his final act, and certainly not because of it, as in the case of Jan Palach. US culture (still?) stigmatizes suicide.
